The Memphis Etsy.com Team was started by Tonya Tate in the Fall of 2010 to connect local designers and artisans selling on Etsy. Having little experience but a lot of enthusiasm, the team produced its very first market under the brand ISM: Indie Style Market that same Christmas in the former Muse space in South Main.

The following year the team went back to South Main for their second Christmas Market in the Klein Fitness space.

Our big break came in 2012 when the MemShop Team reached out to us to produce a month-long popup to reactivate Overton Square. Naturally we said YES although we had no clue how to operate a long-term retail store but we figured it out fast. By the end of the first weekend, the team sold $22k in handmade/local goods. At the close of our of our first popup shop a total of $65k worth of goods had been sold. #YayUs #MemphisShopsLocal

The team returned to Overton Square after the renovations and produced month-long popups in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 we changed our brand from Indie Style Market to Modern Handmade Memphis.

By 2015, Overton Square was all leased up so we headed Downtown and did a popup on Harbor Town. We didn’t do a popup in 2016 but we headed East in 2017 and produced our most recent popup in Saddle Creek in Germantown. It was alsoin 2017 when we changed from Modern Handmade to Modern Made Memphis recognizing that for some products it just makes sense to leave the production to the experts.

It’s been an incredible journey from our humble beginnings until now. We’ve done a lot more that we have space to talk about on this page so we’ll leave you with a few pics from the past. 🙂
